I’m very familiar with IBM’s WebSphere Application Server (WAS). As well as using it as a platform for installing and running applications, I have written Python (or strictly, Jython) scripts to manage it.
I’ve even made change’s to IBM’s open-source WSAdminLib library. I wasn’t able to contribute the changes back as I would have liked, because of my then-employer’s intellectual property policy, but you can still see my contributions at my Github site.
Other appservers exist, of course, and I have some experience of JBoss and Tomcat too.
